Read Me First – Tips & Info!

September 13th, 2010

I decided to quickly whip up a Read Me / FAQ section over here because I’ve noticed I’ve been having to answer the same questions over and over…If’ you’re looking for an answer to a question, please try searching for it first, a lot of questions have already been answered in the past comments.. you can also read on and you might just find an answer to a question that’s been in your head…if you can’t find your answer after both searching and looking through this FAQ though, shoot me the question and I’ll see if I can answer it for you..

Part 1 = Questions and Answers
Part 2 = Useful/Interesting Posts
Part 3 = End Of Month Totals

Part 1 – Questions And Answers:

Q: How long have you been at this?

A: Since around June of 2008.  I’ve been at it seriously though since late December 2008 when I began logging my progress on a daily basis over at another site’s forum, I eventually moved that daily updating over to this site in May of 2009.

Q: What hosting do you use?

A: I use a Hostgator reseller account (several now, I bought 2 more so I can have around 300 sites on each)

Q: Where do you get your domains?

A: I buy my domains at Namecheap (free privacy protection first year and 99 cents after that with coupon)

Q: How many sites do you have?

A: I don’t know off hand, but about 130 Clickbank Snipers made via George Brown’s Google Sniper (link in the sidebar), 8 authority sites with 60-180 posts each selling Clickbank products and at the time of writing this(January 2010), 130 Adsense snipers as per John/XFactor’s book. **Update: I have around 228 adsense snipers right now, to find out the most recent # of adsenes snipers, simply scroll through the most recent posts and look for the last adsense sniper I made.  The title will be something like “Day XXX – Adsense Sniper #228”

Q: What are your expenses? / What is your net profit? / Are you “breaking even”?

A: I am strongly against the whole notion of counting expenses for the purposes of seeing if you’ve “broken even” and whatnot…just a useless mentality.  If I thought like this I’d never be where I’m at with the passive income that I have; This kind of mentality will seriously impede your success, it does not put more money in your pocket and it’s the WRONG thing to be focusing on.  What you focus on you attract..If you focus on breaking even or making sure you’re in the green, you’re mind is not going to be conditioned for success, you will not have the needed mindset to attract the wealth you’re looking for.

Really, the only thing you need to know is that I spent money on whatever I felt was necessary to progress my IM understanding and my IM business, no matter the cost…that becomes a lot easier when your business starts making money and is basically funding itself.  The end result is that I now at the time of writing this have about a 3 – 3.5k/month passive income stream.  This mindset never served me in the past and it’s not going to serve you now…Under “A Few Generic Tips” read point #2 : Click here to read on…

Q: Can you show us one of your sites?

A: It’s not often that I get asked this, but most IM’ers know that if you put out a site of yours, you’re basically asking to get ripped off, copied and raped.  This is a business and you’ve got to protect your sites from those who  would attempt to uncover your network of sites and backwards engineer your success and become your new competition.

Q: Can you tell me how you make your sites from beginning to end?

A: Read this

Q: How do you pick your keywords?

A: Read this .. and this.

Q: Why aren’t you backlinking as per XFactor’s guide?

A: I initially started backlinking as per John’s suggestion (Predominantly Ezine Articles), you can see me going nuts with that over here.  Read through Sept – Oct and you’ll see me doing many Ezine submissions, I did around 300+ of them, you’ll even find screenshots of the results of my efforts..

Although it was generating some results, it was not giving me the results I was looking for and not nearly as fast as I’d like.  I figured there had to be a better way and  hence I began making use of other backlinking methods.

Q: What do you use to backlink your sites?

A: Unique Article Wizard is an absolute staple in my backlinking efforts, each run of that goes out to 500-1.5k directories and out of all that I end up with 25-30 registered Yahoo backlinks.  And if you’re wondering why that wouldnt’ result in 500-1.5k backlinks, his is just the way things work, not all backlinks are counted by Yahoo, even fewer by Google which is why most ppl use Yahoo backlinks to check their backlinks.

What I like to do is outsource the writing for the Unique Article Wizard Articles to Human Rewriter.  I find an article on Ezine Articles related to my niche, bring it down to 350-400 words and submit it to Human Rewriter to be re-written 3x which costs me around $9-$10, then I use those 3 re-writes as input into the UAW system to auto generate those 25-30 backlinsk for each of my sites.  ****NOTE: I don’t use Human Rewriter anymore, they have stopped paying their affiliates and their business practices are now in question, read this to learn more. ****

I’ve also recently used Backlink Solutions to great effect as can be seen here , and here.

Q: What rate do you submit your UAW articles at?

A: 15/day, although I used to do 10/day before and that was fine as well.

Q: When did you start working on the Google Sniper Method/Xfactor Method/Hubpages/Infobarrels etc…

A: Read the 2009 yearly income summary here for the answer.

Q: Why do you have videos in your posts?

A: It’s how I roll..

Q: How do you link to your sites in a UAW submission?

A: Read comment #5 right here.

Q: How do you pick the categories you submit to in UAW?

A: Read comment #23 right here.

Q: When doing a UAW submission, does the article you’re submitting have to be related to the links in your resource box?

A: It’s been my experience that at least 1 of the links must be related, the other can be unrelated…you just have to word your bio box the right way.  If the article is piano related, you could write this: “Bob Jones has a passion for pianos, however he has also written on dolphin toys, check out both his sites: piano chairs and dolphin ball hoops.”

Q: Isn’t it getting hard to find keywords now for adsense/clickbank snipers?

A: Read my reply to Vince in this comment.

Q: Are adsense snipers and clickbank snipers just short term sites that won’t last in the SERPS?

A: Read my reply to Kelly in this comment.

Q: When you outsource to Human Rewriter, how much do you wind up paying?

A: About $9-10 for 3 350-400 word articles(I always take 1 Ezine Article and queue it to be re-written 3x).

Q: How do you manage all your sites?

A: I use a free program that you might still be able to find on the net if you search long enough, Domain Dashboard.  I use this for all my Wordperss blogs to access their individual CPanels relatively easily…this only works for reseller accounts though.  For my adsense snipers, XSite Pro 2 itself is a management system for all my sites, very easy to navigate them all.  For statistics, I use analytics, 50 per account and I have a few…also I started using Statcounter due to Analytics limit.

Q: What are you using to track your rankings in the search engines?

A: I used to use Magic Rank Tracker, but that was a bit cumbersome, now I use Market Samurai.

Q: How do you manage all your sites?

A: For my adsense snipers, XSite Pro is what I use to create the sites and it also serves as a management system as well.  It is easy to navigate through all your sites in the program and then go and edit/add pages to any of them using it.

For my Clickbank snipers I can’t go and edit them as easily, but I never edit my CB snipers anyway…One thing I do use to easily check their statistics though is Domain Dashboard, it is a free app you might be able to find, it only works if you have a reseller account though.  Also, I use Analytics and more recently Statcounter to track my site info…although I should note, I rarely go and micro-analyze and check this stuff, I just build, promote, build promote, I rarely look back..

Q: Do you use dashed domains?

A: I never go for dashed domains and never will pick one up..just like with adding words to the end of a domain, it will be harder to get it ranking, I prefer easy/guaranteed rankings.

Q: How do you maintain all your sites?

A: I have a different mindset..I don’t see anything as needing maintenance, I just put my time and effort into BUILDING and everything else takes care of itself I’ve found. Maintenance seems regressive…

When I find out what the winning sites I have are, I will not try to maintain them, I will try and GROW them further. That’s what I’m looking to do with some of my adsense sites that are performing well, I’m going to hit them with more UAW runs.

So no, I don’t spend my time building backlinks to sites, not unless I’m trying to grow them further.  The only routine I have is of building more properties or building up winning’s never motivated by dips in earnings. If dips happen, they happen.

Q: How many hours do you work on your business each day?

A: Back when I was working IM while still on contract working a regular job, I’d work at least 3 hours each day and more on the weekends.  When my last contract ended and I started doing IM full-time, I would spend around 6 hours a day 7 days a week (sometimes more, sometimes less).

Q: How do you stay focused/disciplined and get work done each day?  AKA How can I improve my time management / be more productive?

A: Read this and this.

Q: How do you use Backlink Solutions?

A: Read this.

Q: What proxy service do you use for Scrapebox?

A: At the moment, yourprivateproxy(dot)com.

Q: Do you do your Bookmarking Demon submissions to all of the sites at once?

A: Yes, I submit to 100 odd sites…not all of them go through though, only about 1/2…I have no adverse effects from doing this.  I also make 2 alterations of the title and 2 alterations of the description before submitting.

Q: For your Ezine submissions, do you use 1 account/name?

A: Use multiple names for your Ezine submissions, you don’t want your whole network of sites on 1 name for all to see.

Q: How many visitors per month do your best sites get?

A: Read this.

Q: Why did your adsense income drop so much in June?

A: Due to the Google “Mayday” update which was designed to make it harder for small websites like adsense snipers to rank and pull in long tail traffic.  I’m currently in the process of backlinking/adding more content to my sites to overcome this.

Hey Mike, Great site and thanks for sharing your inspiring journey.

Quick question, do you have a preference for Backlink Solutions over SEnuke, or you used them both?

  11. b&c
    March 2nd, 2010 at 05:03 | #11

Both works, but SEnuke requires more work. I know Mike doesn’t use SEnuke but has had great successes with BLS.

  12. Lucky
    March 2nd, 2010 at 05:47 | #12

Thanks b&c for the kind answer…I read somewhere that he used SEnuke in the past, perhaps he stopped using because BLS was more effective to him.

  13. Al
    March 2nd, 2010 at 07:15 | #13

They both do different things it’s like comparing apples to oranges.

SEnuke create web 2.0 properties on parasite sites such as blogger, etc, with the full version, you can Socialbookmark, RSS nuke, video nuke etc.

BLS gives you access to a network of 300+ private blogs that you can post snippets to with BL’s to your site.

BLS is easier to use but has a cap at 1000links per month, SEnuke can be used infinitely limited only to your time. It’s a desktop software.

    @John Dales

Hey John, thanks for the offer man.. I’m only looking to document what I’m doing without any outside influence / without any agenda though. The only way that could happen would be if I decided on my own to give profile backlinks a shot again and went ahead and paid for your service.

Thanks Lucky…I prefer BLS as I’ve seen some nice boosts in income using that and it takes very little effort to set up the backlinks… SENuke is more involved…I have seen results with it a LONG time ago..the time I went from $300/month to $600 I had run SENuke on the inner pages of one of my authority sites and raised them from page 2 & 3 to page 1..

When trying it out on my adsense snipers though, I did not have the same level of success.

I’ve found BLS to be more effective for my adsense snipers + take less time to manage.

    Hi Mike

Stumbled upon your blog today looking up that scraper software you were using…was wondering how that went in the end…..??

I too am doing similar work and getting things done I think but for me my model is learn everything and outsource full timers to the Philippines to do most of it. I just got onto niche blueprint 2.0 which is has a great keyword tool that does what you do automatically (faster than sumarai) and its the dropshipping thing but mainly going to conquer medium level niches in eccoommerce. Will see hoe it goes I am trying to pump out a major site per week with 3.5 staff full time including SEO people. I work in Marketing in the day. Anyway I totally get your mindset on produce produce and action is all that matters. Not sure if you have read Getting Things Done By David Allen…..right up this alley

Anyway sorry to ramble….I was also wondering why you say in your FAQ you dont buy dashed domains? I am going for exact domains with .com with or without dashes but am thinking of going to etc. There are so many views on this but i definitely see spikes in exacts in serps (yo miht have seen a video by sumarai on this). Can I ask why you dont buy dashes? Have you tested this. I mean I even bought a 60k day volume 3 word dash .com domain for 250 that has less than 50k comp but having trouble indexing so have heard some negativity on this……your thoughts on domains and any testing would be much appreciated

    Hey Manny…

man, for some reason new users posting end up in the ‘pending’ comments..sorry about that.

I’m not sure what you mean by scraping software, are you referring to Scrapebox? I pretty much chronicled what kind of results I got out of it if you check back on my posts..

Regarding not getting dashed domains, the reason for this is because I don’t like fighting uphill battles with the serps, I’d rather go with the flow.

If you’re trying to rank for “brown piano stool” you will have a MUCH easier time ranking for that keyword by registering either, org or net(provided the competition is low of course). If you add any additional words before or after the keyword (IE: or, you will not be given the same boost in rankings as if you had the EXACT domain.

The same thing goes if you were to add dashes…dashes are even worse than adding a word before or after your keyword, it makes ranking harder…you’ll have to spend much more time building up backlinks to get your site ranking for what you want it to.

As you’ve said, you can have dashed domains that are successful, but there is no reason to fight an uphill battle when creating new sites..And my whole strategy has been creating these mini niche sites geared to specific keywords so that I can get quick rankings with minimal effort.

  18. Kasey Langton
    March 25th, 2010 at 23:25 | #18

    @ Manny
Like Mikeman states, buying the exact keyword domain is best, BUT if you absolutely must buy a domain and its not available but for some reason you just HAVE to have it, instead of buying a dashed domain or adding extra words. try this, add the word “the” at the beginning of the domain. the big G has decided to ignore “and” “if” & “the” in the domains. so it would be something like so go0gle will see it as this is the closest you can get to having an exact keyword domain. i have one site in particular that i did this with and it works farely well, its on the first page for the keyword without the “the” in it.

  19. March 26th, 2010 at 02:29 | #19

    @Kasey Langton
the funny thing is – I was doing some KW research and noticed that there were some “the(keyword).com/net/org/etc.” sites on the first page.

I’ve also noticed that for dashed…? I’m going to be sticking with exact, definitely, but will do an experiment with dashes and “the” domains to see.

MIKE!! So good to see you back on! I feel like you’re my siamese twin. wait…that’s a little too…intimate. sorry.

Mike, I’ve been voraciously consuming all your info. If a keyword search shows a PR4 in position 6 but all sites in positions 1-5 rate PR N/A to 3, is it safe to go for it in your opinion?

  22. Mikeman
    May 21st, 2010 at 00:11 | #22

It’s hard to say with just that little info whether the kw is viable..what is position 7-10? How many N/A’s and PR 0’s are there? How many backlinks do the PR N/A’s and PR 0’s have? What domains are the PR N/A’s and 0’s? Are any of the N/A’s or 0’s other sniper sites?

You also need to consider what niche its in. If it’s something competitive like credit cards, lawyers, loans or something, then forget it.

There is also an intangible to this game which is intuition, which I can’t get from straight up statistics…it’s something that comes with practice.

  23. ross
    May 21st, 2010 at 02:01 | #23

Shit, you know I can’t even remember the keyword I was using as an example for this question. I’ve literally got spreadsheets filled with ideas to QC before I make the jump. Regardless, thanks for taking a minute to reply.

It wasn’t something as competitive as credit cards, much more niche-y.

OK, so if 0’s are other snipers should I stay away?
Also I know yelps, yahoo answers, etc are easy wins, but wikihow and wikipedia are not. Are and ezine articles easy wins too?

Again, very grateful for your work here. I found your site after I bough google sniper, though I’m finding by monetizing a site I created without the intention of making cash or even knowing any SEO I’m earning avg $30 a month in adsense. This is making me very intersted in adsense sniping!

I hear you on instinct. I’m definitely figuring out this is a learn by doing kind of thing.

  24. ross
    May 21st, 2010 at 02:10 | #24

also in researching the availability of domains I’ve come across quite a few terrible sites that are just fundamentally done wrong, or blank wordpress blogs from a year ago. it drives me crazy these guys are sucking up domains and letting them sit useless.

my goal is to start by creating 5 total cb snipers, 10 adsense snipers, buy a uaw sub (15 per day),bmd, pay for rss posting, write an ezine article for each, send a digg for each. does this procedure seem sound to you?

my first cb sniper is #3 for it’s keyword, gets about 12 hops a day, and I never used any of those tools. of course, it hasn’t made a penny in a month either.

once again, thank you. your humble tone is what made me believe in IM as a reality instead of some scammy scam thing.

  25. Mikeman
    May 21st, 2010 at 18:16 | #25

Hey Ross, thanks for the compliments man..glad my site helped you out.

Seeing another sniper is a good sign, means that you too can rank for that kw.

seeing an Ezine can be a good sign..I don’t look for though. Really, I just look for 2 PR 0’s or N/A’s, go check out my read me for more info on how I pick kw’s..

About creating 5 CB snipers and 10 adsense snipers…I’d focus on either CB or adsense, don’t spread yourself thin. Also, I’d set out to make WAY more than just 5 or 10 sites…you won’t see any notable income with so few sites, ESPECIALLY if you’re just learning how to do all this stuff.

You need to set a goal like 50 or 100 sites, that will at least show you some results for your efforts, and give you enough experience to learn what keywords work and what don’t.

  26. ross

Word. I have decided to focus on adsense, and the 10/5 goal is the first goal of many to get myself on the road to success. Unfortunately I’ve got very limited money to put into domains, etc, so for right now I’m doing it “What About Bob?” style… Baby steps…

My wife speaks spanish as her first language so I’m attempting some spanish clickbank snipers. Keywords in espanol are much less saturated, though I have to figure out how to help the rankings with bookmarks for a spanish language site.

other than the 10/5, can you confirm the rest of the procedure is solid? (buy a uaw sub (15 per day),bmd, pay for rss posting, write an ezine article for each, send a digg for each). I know your preferences have changed over the last 15 months or so.

Hah, ya, that was a good movie..

My process is still the same. The one suggestion I’d make is that you wait until you have a large amount of sites built before you do your UAW submissions.

I like to do my submissions to 30 sites at a time, you can really see the benefits of it when doing it in batches… But if your main goal you’re setting for yourself is to get 15 sites out..I’d do the basic BMD/Digg/RSS submissions for those sites as you build them, but hold off on doing UAW until you’ve got all 15 sites up..if money is tight for you, you might be able to save on some of the subscription costs that way.

You have so much valuable information here, it’s borderline ridiculous. Who ever said free information wasn’t worth anything? I’m very thankful that you’re providing this for free, because I’d gladly pay for your insight. Watching a real person as they progress and make money online is fucking awesome. Thank you.

Hi Mike, I developed a tool to check my sites rank at big G and also it is available for everybody. The data (url and keyword) are encrypted at data base using BLOWFISH/CBC, so nobody can access it except the user that has entry the data. The tool still under development so any suggestion are welcome.
