Ya, transferring will be annoying, I believe you have to pay for 2 years for the domain when transferring over to Namecheap.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the feedback. I know this is going to be a pain, but for each renewal in 2010 (and each new name registration actually), I will move my domains away from GoDaddy since they rip off their customers when the privacy inquiries kick in. But with 150+ domain names and counting, it is going to be a very long process all throughout 2010 indeed. I'm thinking namecheap as you noted and maybe even 1and1, since I have registered a few names there already.

<a href="#comment-3343" rel="nofollow">@Stacey</a>

Hmm, I use Namecheap which has free privacy the first year and every subsequent year if you use a coupon it's only $1...I never got any fee when I got a message via the protected e-mail using them..

But $20 per e-mail is definitely ridiculous...

About outsourcing, ya, I got "My partner is in the hospital" as well...I guess it's back to looking for more outsourcers.

Hey Mike, Regarding the outsourcing, when I was using oDesk, I initially had eight writers I primarily worked with, then through attrition I ended up with three. I thought they were going to be rock solid and reliable, but ultimately, one went rogue, and the other two had "I was in the hospital" and "My husband was in the hospital" episodes. Interesting.

I learned to live with it, and now I basically only use one (the one whose husband was in the hospital) and haven't had a relapse. I pretty much write the rest of the articles myself. The one I use is a college grad, great grasp of English grammar and she's from the Philippines.

Hi Mike,

A few days ago I wrote about a legal firm that was bullying me on a couple of domain names (dot net and org) that had part of their company name included. I complied with everything they asked for; of course, the mean spirited lawyer lady was out on vacation, so all I got was a bounce back from her emails. But I do have proof of fax and certified mail.

A quick update and a warning as well to everyone using godaddy and domains by proxy for privacy. Today godaddy's sales team hit me with two $20 charges for each of the domains. Apparently, when the privacy company domains by proxy forwarded the legal firm's email to me, I incurred a charge. Twice the email and I now got hit with $20 per instance, which Godaddy's sales team was more than eager to suck out of my credit card. Their justification is "In accordance with Domains By Proxy's Domain Name Proxy Agreement...we have charged your credit card...for DBP's processing of this inquiry." The agreement stipulates a "reasonable service fee" but I find that $20 to forward each and every email is *not* reasonable.

In theory, if I pretended to be a law firm and started inquiring into every private registration made by Domains By Proxy (DBP), I would be making GoDaddy VERY RICH. That's $20 per inquiry against the domain name holder. Imagine if people started doing that to their competition? Total harassment and highway robbery. I am planning to file a complaint with the FTC on this matter. Forwarding an email to me should not cost $20 per incident, even if it came from a law firm. What the heck is the difference anyway if the inquiry came from a law firm? An email is an email and does not cost $20 to forward.
