Day 142 – Need To Find More Gems

You know one of the things John mentioned in his book was that although you may have one plan in your head, that can change as you gain more experience.  I have found this to be the case for me in the past as well…

For instance, I was just planning on putting out 2 sites a day, but now ever since putting up that 1 site that made me a huge chunk of cash in just 1 day, it made me rethink things.  What I realized is this game is really all about knowing the right niches and more importantly the right money keywords to go after.  I mean, if someone could come up to me with a silver platter, and under that tray present me with 25 keywords that are just MONEY, I’m done…I make those 25 sites and I’m at $100+ day.

Now that site I made FYI did drop out of page 1 and off the map, but it’s all part of the game, it will be back no doubt about it….

See, ever since I had this 1 breakthrough site, I now realize I need to spend MUCH more time researching.  I’ve found that when you have a huge list of reserached keywords that you KNOW you can rank well for 100%, that really fuels your fire and gives you the motivation to continue on…

When you don’t have a large list of keywords you are 100% certain on, you lose your drive, you become uncertain, and you start wondering if this is going to work out for you…

Because my keyword listing contained a bunch of keywords that were under 3k searches a month, I figured it was time to revise this listing and find some more since at this time, I haven’t been able to get the inner pages ranking(I will try UAW at some point though).

My current strategy is that any time I find a keyword that has at least 3k searches, I will make that a main homepage (keyword.com/net/org).  I will then make the other 4 pages on keywords that are usually less than 2,400 exact searches, although most of the time they turn out to be around 1k or less.

I also tend to give preference to keywords that aren’t a product keyword(ex: braun blenders), I do have sites that are created for product keywords, but I prefer giving all the good keywords to the site that isn’t a product keyword (ex: table top blenders)….This way if I end up losing braunblenders.com or what have you, I won’t care as much.  I would rather not try and grow a site on a product keyword more than 5 keywords as you never know if you may lose it due to the company asking you to take it down.

Now I feel that the longer a list of super high quality / high certainty keywords I can develop, the more excited I will be to pump each of these sites out…basically, in order to fuel the fire and to keep your motivation and expectation of success high and keep you thinking that this is what’s going to bring the bread and butter in, you’ve got to do massive amounts of KW research, to the point that you are 100% certain that the sites you make are going to be ranking and making good money.

So anyways, as far as what I did today, I’ve written the content for 1 site and also done some research.  I’ve added a handful of keywords I feel really good about and I feel that even if I pop out only 1 of these a day, if they are for the pick of the litter keywords, that will do fine.

Earnings For Today:

  • CB = 0.  This is the 5th $0 day in 7 days…normally I get only 1 $0 day in 15 days, rarely 2…so something is up for sure.  I contacted the support, then got redirected to the product owner.  He says the new copy is converting about the same for them on their side but said he’ll look into why I may not be seeing sales…time will tell what’s up here, at this point I don’t know what is going on exactly, might be Clickbank that’s the problem, who knows?
  • Hops = 216(new) / 408(old)
  • Adsense = $2.33

    Mike, more thoughts on CB problems: I would say to CB product owner, “If new copy is converting same as old copy, why not return to old copy, since nothing would be sacrificed on their end?”

    On Warrior Forum, I often see marketers complain about CB sales almost completely stopping. They try opening new CB acct. and then changing to the new acct link. Its surprising how many then see sales almost automatically return to prior stats…maybe worth trying.

    Ya, they said it converts about the same if not better, I don’t think they’ll be changing it back…not sure what the problem is yet, they haven’t gotten back to me regarding analyzing my stats.

    The thing about that tactic with switching links is it would be easy if you only had a handful of sites to change the links on, but I have over 100, so that’s not really a feasible option…after I hear back from the product owner, I may send a msg to CB…

    Hi Mike

    I always wonder how inaccurate data google keyword tool provides us: I’ve built two “successful” websites(just rank #1, but sell nothing till now), the keywords I targeted should bring in at least dozens of traffic if not hundreds as google told me there are over 3,000 people searching for it every month. But what I see is only several clicks each day, i’m lucky if the number passes 10.

    I’m confused…

    Hey Shane, ya, the Google Keyword Research Tool isn’t always accurate and sometimes that happens. The only way to TRULY find out the traffic for a keyword is to run a temporary Adwords campaign for the keyword and see how many impressions that gets in 1 day.

    In order to prevent ppl from clicking your ad, you would just make it a totally irrelevant ad to the keyword…doing this of course takes time though.

    Hey Mike,

    Maybe it’s due to the season where sales drop for us affiliates. I noticed in google trends that searches are lower for months aug/sep upwards and starts getting more searches as the new year starts again.

    Though this is not the case for all niches, it certainly effects some niches.

    Hey Zeb,

    I don’t think so… I sent a good # of hops this past week to them, 667. I also had 167 order form impression counts, 2 order form submits, 0 sales. The change in income coincided with them changing their sales page.

    Until I hear back, I’m just going to focus on what I can control and keep working on my adsense snipers..

    I’ve also noticed that there were a couple of order form submits in my cb account for one or two main products that i was promoting but no sales were going through.

    There was an issue (maybe a rumor) that people were having problems ordering from the cb order page but don’t know the validity of this and hope that this is not the case. Oh well, like you said Mike, it’s better to focus on things that what we can control 🙂
